Variety's Review of Drones!

Drones

A Finish Films presentation. Produced by Todd Gilbert, James Bruce, Adam Busch. Executive producer, Jordan Kessler. Directed by Amber Benson, Adam Busch. Screenplay, Ben Acker, Ben Blacker.

With: Jonathan W. Woodward, Angela Bettis, Samm Levine, James Urbaniak, Dave "Gruber" Allen, Tangi Miller, Marc Evan Jackson, Paul F. Tompkins.

Billed as "Close Encounters of the Office Kind," indie satire "Drones" mixes droll cubicle comedics a la "The Office" and "Office Space" with a patently absurd alien-invasion scenario. Never leaving its nondescript corporate-branch floor, the pic may be a little too small and low-key to attract theatrical bidders. But its deft farcical performances, witty script and sure-footed handling (by two thesps-turned-helmers) could attract a cult following via fest, DVD and possible cable sales.

Encouraged to hit on polite but chilly co-worker Amy (Angela Bettis, taking a break from B horror pics), guileless type Brian (Jonathan W. Woodward) takes her on a date that leads to instant coupledom. But Brian has already learned that fellow mouse-pusher Clark (Samm Levine) hails from another planet. He's even more taken aback to discover Amy does, too. Just how many aliens posing as humans are employed here, anyway? Will they enslave, destroy or make peace? (All the above, it turns out, depending on which planet they're from.) The usual office romancing and gossip thus interwoven with intergalactic intrigue, "Drones" achieves a deadpan silliness that's often delightful. Perfs are pitch-perfect, assembly sharp within modest means.

Camera (color, HD), David McFarland; editor, Peter Lindo; music, Jonathan Dinerstein, Dan Bern; production designer, Lea Anna Drown. Reviewed on DVD, Jan. 27, 2010, Park City, Utah. (In Slamdance Film Festival -- competing.) Running time: 96 MIN.

With: Jonathan W. Woodward, Angela Bettis, Samm Levine, James Urbaniak, Dave "Gruber" Allen, Tangi Miller, Marc Evan Jackson, Paul F. Tompkins.

I have a pretty hard time finding a title for this post.
I'm sorry I have not posted in such a long time. So many things happened to me! Well I still have been online quite a lot but never took the time to update this journal.

So what happened to me? Wow many things.

Well maybe not so many. But several are going to happen to me and we've been making plans and I am so gidy about those stuff that it is as if I've been doin' them.

So I will tell ya what happened to me but unorganized-ly! ^__^

So I got nominated in 9 categories for the SunnyD Awards and here's what I got: (*happy dances*)

< < this is so great because this fic is my baby! =) (an non updated baby, sorry lol)

http://thekittenboard.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=5050

So I was a pretty happy Juju when I discovered this!

Then it was a lot of work to prepare the exams... But Lazy Me has essentially looked at her open books and sighed. I'm waiting for the results, I hope I passed.
Which makes me think, I had a panick attack when I was supposed to go to an oral exam of Spanish. I ran away! Luckily the exam had been canceled. I had not had a panick attack since early 2007 and me quitting my Sociology studies. Weird.

And on another totally off topic moment: I got into facebook! I'm bad! ;-)
On facebook I found several of my counsins, even one I see once a year. But I didn't see her in 2008 because she didn't come for Christmas, the only familial event she usually attends. I am oh so disappointed and saddened by this. But we can't force people to be part of your life, can we? Sometimes I wonder if she even knows what we do, when our birthdays are... Basic stuff.

On another and way happier note: I feel so comfortable among the young people in my group at College! I can be myself, a naughty silly geeky me, and yet they still hang out with me willingly! LOL
It feels so nice. Better! Most of them are still with me for this second semester! (Hi guys! =) )

About this second semester, it rocks. It won't be easy though 'cause I'm not good at analysing poetry, it feels like murder to me. But it is really nice; Linguistics is cool (well the lecture, not the seminar), we start in music each class!  But the bestest best? The grammar seminar. Why? We have a hot mama yama! a Mc Steamy (except no on call rooms), a Mc Dreamy, a Mc Hotty a... Miss Yummy!
*if I don't improve my English grammar with Miss Yummy, then I htink I'm hopeless! =D*

Speaking of improving (see how it is all connected? LOL), my dearest Rose and I are going to New York! I'll spend a whole week speaking English only, it has to make me improve too! We were supposed to go there from the 3rd to the 10th of February so we could also go to the comic con and meet Amber Benson, but it is once again not this time I'll meet the lady. (I swear it is a conspiracy! Wouldn't you agree? lol) ;-)
We're going late February and it is going to be a blast! Beware New Yorkers, 2 crazy women are coming! But I guess there are a lot of craziness over there already! lol
And speaking of missing yet again Miss Yummy Benson, things may change! After the French Buffy Con for which things went wrong, after the several UK trips where I could not go or she canceled, and after New York and my passport issues, I may finally meet her thank to Dorothy who's taking me with her in LA!
So another week before Spring during which English will be my only language! Oh and sun please a whole sunny week in march would be so cool! And please dear Amber, don't cancel the events in March!

March that will also be full of goodness since Rosemary's coming in Europe! I can't wait to show off my beautiful town! And other cities of course.

I guess it is a lot for one post? Lemme think of ther things to say and Ipromise to update sooner this time!

Some pics for the end!

Hello All!

How are you? I moved! I moved on October 25th, and then spend a week doing some repairs in the flat we were leaving. A crappy flat if you ask me.
Things are better. No more nightmares, well none that are unusual or harsher. So it's pretty cool.

My mother drinks a bit less, which is quite cool. She's "bitchy drunk" only 3 times a week or so. And those times I am not alone. Michel is there and helps me to take her crap. He is funny to live with. I have always known him and I discover nothing now. It's really nice to not feel uncomfortable when living with a man. I have always felt uncomfortable before when there was a man living with me, except for my godfather's. But Michel doesn't apply to the uncomfortable thing.
I really feel at home. It's so good to feel.

To answer your question Debra, yes there are those meetings in France, I had found an address to one in my town, but I never managed to get myself to go there. It's not denial, but more like it will depress me even more you know? Although Rose is dreaming of me going there. I can't. I don't want to either I think. But don't worry, I'm not in denial. My mother is an alcoholic. It's sad but it's life. It is sometimes hard, often upsetting, but I do know it is never my fault. And this is the most important thing. I think it is anyway.

So things are pretty good, some days there are not, but most of the times I can't complain to much. We're deep in the red zone with money, but we have a home and can't get evicted. Food is there too. So I won't complain.

Plus I got nominated at the Sunny D Awards! For 3 of my fics! Thank you to those who nominated me. It sure is a great feeling. =)

Now I only need the Internet at home which should be there soon (I know I keep saying that but it is because it is supposed to be that way, I don't know when it'll be on, it can actually already be on at home).

Anyway, dear friends, people I know a bit but can't quite call friends, and readers, sorry for this unorganized post, thank you for your kind words in the dark times. I hope you're all doing well, I know one of you at least  isn't doing so well. I hope to be back soon to help as much as I can.

Oh and here are two links, the first is of the nominated at the SunnyD Awards, and the other is to vote. All nominated fictions are readable, you just click on the title and you'll be send to where it is posted. So you can read mine if you want, and if you've liked them enough, you can also vote for them. Or for others. There are many very good Willow and Tara fictions. But for the non Willara fictions, I can't help you. I don't know them.

I wish you all a great day.

Friendly,

Julia.

So Busy!

Scooby
Hello everybody,

I am so busy lately, I had/still have to pack, we're moving out tomorrow, and we're nto done packing!
I found myself alone at first, doing the packing, and stuff. The mother just kept saying "we're not going to make it, we're not going to make it", and then she would get drunk. Well thanks to that, we're not going to make it well organized. I had classes to attend, and then to take care of her.

I am extremely exhausted, and I just ant to say something: Ladies, Gentlemen, if you WANT to have a kid, ACT as a parent. Not the way around.

I am desperate to have, one day, a responsible mother from point A to poit B. Not just before we reach point B...

I'm tired of having to tell her to go to bed or to eat, or stuff like that.

I can't wait 'till we're in the house, it won't change hr childish behaviour, but I won't be alone. And it'll be easier to isolate myself...

Arrrggg I seem to post only bad things, but I swear, some happy stuff happen to me!

For instance, and to end this post on a positive note, my last short fic seems to please people, and in one class we have to write fictions, and my teacher commented "Good, you have a good narration style". This is something great for me.

Now if I just wanna cry myself to sleep, but I still have so many things to do... I wish Mary Poppins would appear!

Last night I had an horrible nightmare. The kind I had not had in a very long time. The kind that is exhausting.

I am exhausted today. I am sick already and so already tired, but now I'm exhausted.

It's the kind of nightmares you can't wake up from, it takes a lot of time to really wake up from, it has to be over. If something wake you up from it, it doesn't keep you from going back to it. You can't avoid it.

I'm not going to dwell on it, but suffice to say I think I kept crying all night long, at least in my nightmare, my chest was aching like when you've been crying. My heart was aching too, but not literally. And my head is spinning.

I hope it was just a random, I can't go on if it is like it was some years ago. I had those nightmares for months, ended up in getting only about 5 hours of sleep weekly, and passing out in the shower or in random places, from exhaustion.

I can't. I missed school today, and I hate to miss school. I love what I'm learning, I like the people there.

I hate having nightmares.

Disneyland Taken By the SNBs

GrrArgh

Last weekend was an SNB weekend, and it took place in Paris.

Plus C could come, and so it really was an SNB meeting.

On Friday evening, after having put away our bags at B's place, we took off to find a starbuck for me, and to enjoy the evening in the Parisian streets. Well we did that without the Starbuck part, 'cause B told us where to go and so we went in the opposite direction! Don't pout B, you're just a B, and I'm just stating. ;-)

So we walked, went to Notre Dame de paris, the real. Not the one I showed you before. 'Cause apparently it isn't. The real one, once you've seen her, there are no doubts. It is beautiful. It was at night, so it was even more beautiful. Anyway here are some pics of the Friday evening, Paris.

and now, B and C and their "best profiles"

And then, on Saturday, we went to Disneyland Resort paris, ex Eurodisney. It was oh so great! We were there for the whole day, and did the two parcs. Of course in only one day we can't do everything, but it was great nonetheless! Long queues, but so much fun! Plus it didn't rain! Definitely Woo and Hoo.

We've got tongue issues. Lol.

The parc dressed up for Halloween, and it was the opening weekend.

B and I, and Halloween ears ^^

my new favorite hat! (didn't buy it though)

C as Stitch

B and her Spike.. lol.. i guess itcan only be some ashes in this though.. ;-)

C, my new Lover (Émile the Chees Slayer) and I.

I love this pic of C... We were on the Big Thunder Moutain ride... =)

B on the Indianna Jones ride. =)

Where are the slayers when B needs them? A kiss attack!

 And to close this post...

That was a great SNB weekend!

Did it!

Elegant Tara

I did it! I went to college and managed not only to not freak out, but also to talk to people not met on a board before! Ok so I won't go and say I've got friends you know, it is not in one day you make friends, but still, I have talked to people, and people have talked back to me.

It went actually smoothly, I'm totally surprised. I did what Debra advised, I took deep breaths when I was feeling like anxious, and it went ok.

So not everything went fine, my name disappeared from all lists, but it is ok, the secretary is quite nice and not bad to look at... So it is fine to have to go to this office. Héhéhé.

Seriously though, the few classes I have had were fine. They don't seem to be easy, which is fine because I go there to learn, but they seem really interesting. I already have a test planned next week, in Spanish. Eek.

Anyway, we'll see how today goes, yesterday I had no classes, but today I do, in an hour and a half actually.

Again, thank you Debra for your advice. It helped.

This is going to be fun!!

Now if the mother could stop drinking it would be funnier.

Anxious.

GrayKitty, Think

Monday is the big day for me. It will be the big start. My first classes.

And I'm totally freaked out.

I am.

Just to think about it my heart is hammering my chest and my palms are sweaty.

I just hope it won't last and that once in class it'll fade because I will have a very hard time understanding if it keeps going on like this.

I start with Spanish, which scares me 'cause I have not spoken spanish in a long time, but they said it was open to beginner so hopefully it'll be slow at first.

And then that's what got me really freaked out. I have a class that depends on in which group I am. The thing is I don't know and the secretary office was closed and will be closed until Tuesday, and everywhere else I asked told me to go to this office.

So how do I do? I will just go to the first one and pray for the teacher to come in pretty early and ask if I'm on his/her list. Hopefully I am and this will be it, otherwise I'll have to run and find the other room and check, and maybe end up in the last room. Lol. Hopefully without being too late. But I will obviously be a bit late and so it'll be hard to just be part of the walls, people will notice me.

That scare me.

I'm afraid of people.

Oh Monday is going to be so fun...

Last WeekEnd Pictures

GrrArgh

So last Friday I went to Nantes to B's. We had a great time even though we missed our C!

On Friday afternoon we went to walk in Nantes, well we actually were going to B's college to get her schedule, and we went by a Japanese Garden, were I at last was able to see a Willow Tree that was not a wheeping one.

But I also discovered this: a Wheeping Pin Tree:

The Saturday we went to the Zoo, it was great. The zoo itself is really nice, and they have lots of baby animals, which I suppose means their animals feel pretty good there.

Here are some pics...
(I don't know the animals' english name for most of them so if you would be so kind in telling me those I have not marked? Thanks)

A baby black Panther! They were 3 babies and 2 adults (the parents I suppose). The babies were so cute! And well I love Bagheera so it was nice to see "one". =)

Momma Monkey and Baby Monkey... =)

Errr hm.. a "Miko"? (Saved by Disney, except if it is not the same name which happens pretty often lol)
(I think it is a raccoon? But not so sure of this name).

A tiger...

An European Bear... =) They were really nice, well not nice as in "oh I wanna go pet them" but they were curious and everything so it was nice of them to no go hiding... I guess.... Ok it sounds weird but I was happy to see them.

I don't know this kind of monkey's name, but he/she was cute, came to sit right in front o fme and made faces to me, and ten looked at me like this, all dreamy look. =)

Wolves (From Alaska)

A last cutie... There're more but well it is enough! To upload takes time, and it is 4:12 am, I couldn't sleep but now I really think I should try to get the last 2 hours I have before I have to actually wake up, so I am not too much of a mess for my first day!!! 'Cause I'm a student again!!! :-D
Anyway, here's the cutie:

And this last picture is for all Buffy Geeks! We fooled around with the things B got in her Season Five (Angel) Spike pack... lol
